The relationship of cosmic masers to the birth and death of stars and other astronomical phenomena are discussed. A model of the protostar IRc 2 in the Orion nebula based on the information derived from the distribution of masers is depicted and described. Maser amplification of the cosmic background radiation by a comet is explained. The observation of a megamaser in the distant peculiar galaxy Arp 220, and the physical processes thay may give rise to it, are examined.
