The LSPM-south is a catalog of high proper motion stars based on the analysis of scans from the Digitized Sky Survey with the SUPERBLINK software. The LSPM-south contains over 50,000 stars with proper motions larger than 0.15 seconds of arc per year. At the brighter end (V<12), the catalog incorporates data from the Tycho-2 catalog. Proper motions for the fainter stars are given with an accuracy ≈15 mas/yr. The LSPM-south is the southern sky complement to the LSPM-north catalog, released in 2005. Completeness tests suggest that the LSPM-south is about 90% complete down to magnitude V=19, which falls short of the 99% completeness of the LSPM-north. Nevertheless, the LSPM-south contains thousands of previously unreported high proper motion stars, particularly in the low Galactic latitude areas. The catalog should prove a very useful tool for completing the census of nearby stars, as well as for studies of the local stellar kinematics.
