Preliminary results of the main campaign of the MERIT experiment are
analysed. It is concluded that the external accuracy of the new methods
of determination of the earth rotation parameters is not so high, as is
sometimes believed, and the duration of the MERIT experiments is
unsatisfactory to solve the proper problems.
