The Johnson U passband has been investigated by computing color indices for the Vilnius spectra using a variety of passbands, all filter defined on the red edge, and by direct observations of standard equatorial stars using the same filters. Comparison of these data enables the adoptions of a U passband which is filter defined on the red edge and tube and atmosphere defined on the blue edge, and which appears to match Johnson U for all spectral types.
