Taurid Meteors, Fireballs
Scientific paper
Visual observations of the Taurid meteor shower obtained by BAA Meteor Section members using standard methods are discussed. While the shower's observed rates are generally low, a complex pattern of Taurid activity may be discerned, with two major and several minor peaks. The relative contributions of the Northern and Southern branches are considered. Observers' magnitude estimates are also analysed, with little indication being found of the high proportion of Taurid fireballs frequently mentioned in popular textbooks.
