Spherule beds found in Archean sediments imply that four impacts on the earth occurred between 3.2 and 3.5 Gyr with impactors 20 to 50 km in diameter. Results are presented of a survey of current near-earth asteroids and inner-solar-system comets, suggesting that class C asteroids, because of their carbonaceous composition and large diameters, may have been the impactors during the Archean period, resulting in the formation of spherule beds. It is suggested that the asteroid 3552 1983 SA, a carbon-rich asteroid with a diameter of 18.7, may be considered an analog of the Archean impactors.
