The installation of ALFA substantially improved the spatial and spectral survey capabilities of the Arecibo 305 m telescope and thereby opened a new era of high-sensitivity surveys at Arecibo. The ``ALFA Ultra Deep Survey'' (AUDS) seeks to exploit this new capability with a blind HI survey using a "drift and chase" technique. The survey will search an area of 0.36 square degrees for redshifted 21cm HI line emission at redshifts between 0 and 0.16 with an unprecedented sensitivity of 50 micro-Jy. We have carried out a precursor survey around a target field centered at RA 00:00:14.9, Dec +15:43:42.5 (J2000) between October 2004 and February 2005. We discovered a total of fifteen HI emitters at redshifts between 0.09 and 0.15 within an area of 15' x 20' on the sky. The number density of objects is up to three times higher than the average density observed in the local Universe. We present both the result of this precursor survey and plans for the full survey to be conducted with the new 200 MHz spectrometer.
