The author discusses the somewhat enigmatic stars that are believed to excite the nebulous Herbig-Haro objects. He starts with what might be termed a status report on this subject as of 1983 (Cohen 1983), and then acquaints the reader with more recent observations that have been taken within the past two years. He discusses infrared photometry and spectroscopy, optical spectroscopy, radio continuum mapping with the Very Large Array (VLA), and broadband airborne photometry and rudimentary mapping with NASA's Kuiper Airborne Observatory (KAO). The most exciting aspects of the new observations bear upon the issues of radio "jets" and of circumstellar dust "disks" around the Herbig-Haro exciting stars.
