Although many elliptical galaxies have been observed in the X-ray, virtually all of them lie in groups or clusters, where environmental interactions can significantly affect their properties and evolution. Truly isolated ellipticals are extremely rare. We have successfully observed one such galaxy with Chandra and propose to observe another, so as to begin to establish a much needed control sample.
