Analysis of the variability of the wings of broad lines in NGC 4151 reveals the red sides of lines lead the blue side in their variations. This implies that the dominant motion of the broad-line region clouds is inward. Outflow is excluded at > 99.9% confidence. This result puts black-hole accretion models of quasars on an observational footing. The highest velocity high-ionization gas is at only ~ 2 light-days radius. The mass of the black hole can now be reliably determined. It is ~ 6 10^7 solar masses.
