New photoelectric DDO and CMT1T2 photometry combined with existing UBV data of G and K stars in the field of NGC 2539 have been used to determine the main astrophysical properties of the cluster giants. A reddening of 0.08 + or - 0.02 mag, a distance modulus of 9.8 + or - 0.5 mag, and an age of (6.4 + or - 0.8) x 10 to the 8th yr are derived for the cluster. The cluster giants have CN strengths nearly identical to those of the Hyades giants; no evidence for anomalous stars is observed. The giants appear to be slightly enriched in elements of the CNO group. Effective temperatures, surface gravities, and masses have also been determined for the giants. The derived masses are found to be systematically lower than the expected theoretical value.
