Perseid meteor counts, heights, magnitudes, and spectra are compared for the showers of 1977, 1978, 1980, 1981, and 1983. The counts were highest in 1980. Heights, magnitudes, and certain spectral characteristics appear correlated with the atmospheric density gradient along the path of the meteor, which is affected by modification of the vertical gradient but most strongly by the altitude of the meteor radiant. Inhomogeneity in the meteoroids may play an additional role in spectral-magnitude relations.
