Angular momentum distributions and energies for a variety of rotating infinitely thin discs are calculated. The infinitely thin discs are mainly considered to be zero order approximations of flat disk-like selfgravitating gases with differential rotation. The angular momentum distributions and the energies of different discs are compared under the assumption of the same total mass and total angular momentum. Discs with various rotation laws show nearly identical angular momentum distributions. The total energies of these discs are also nearly equal. The influence of a finite disc thickness on the angular momentum distribution is briefly discussed. For comparison, angular momentum distributions of rotating cylinders with an infinite uniform extent in the direction of the rotation axis are calculated using the rotation laws of the discs. The influence of a massive nonrotating sphere surrounding a disc is discussed. In particular an exponential disc embedded in a halo with a density power law, ρ ≡ r-2 is considered. Conclusions are drawn regarding the relevance of angular momentum conservation for the hydrodynamics of gaseous discs.
