Accelerator data is used to compare isobaric and scaling model predictions of the secondary spectra of neutral pi-mesons produced in proton-proton collisions at energies between threshold and a few GeV. The isobaric model is found superior, and is used in conjunction with a scaling model representation at high energies to recalculate the contribution of the π0 γ-radiation to the diffuse galactic γ background. Cosmic ray-induced π0 production of photons with energies greater than 100 MeV proceeds at a rate of 1.53×10-25 photons/(s - H atom), with an uncertainty of less than 15% associated with the strong interaction data. Comparison of the results is made with previous calculations of this process and with COS-B observations of the diffuse galactic γ radiation.
