The Mileura Widefield Array will be built in a superbly radio quiet environment at the Mileura Station in western Australia. It will consist of 500 tile antennas, each consisting of 16 dual-polarization dipoles operating in the 80-300 MHz range, distributed over a region 1.5km in diameter. The design has been optimized for epoch of reionization (EoR) studies, and in particular the field of view has been maximized in order to optimize sensitivity for EoR power spectrum detection and characterization. Many other design features are motivated by the need to control systematic errors of various kinds for this demanding spectroscopic measurement. The goal is to begin collecting EoR data at the start of 2008.
The end-to-end array design will be described, with emphasis on capabilities relevant to the EoR measurements. Results from prototype hardware deployed at Mileura will be presented, and the current status of the project will be summarized.
