In this work we present a preliminary investigation of the white dwarf (WD) binary distribution in the Galaxy, and possible connections to planetary nebulae (PNe). We examine three major samples of WDs --- McCook et al. (2003), Farihi et al. (2005), and our own sample for WDs within 25pc (for which new results are presented here).
We examine how the distribution of binaries varies with distance from the galactic disk (z), and compare the result to the distribution of non-binaries. We discuss problems with the many biases and selection effects involved in this method as well as possible directions for future work, including how the binary distribution may be reflected in the locations and morphologies of PNe.
