A method is proposed for calculating the total vector of the ultralarge-scale solar magnetic field from synoptic maps in the approximation of an irrotational field, with allowance for its evolution in time. The February-May 1974 period is taken as an example; the leading terms in the spherical-harmonics expansion of the field are found to be responsible for the ultralarge-scale solar field and the interplanetary field. The stable orientation of the magnetic dipole in the sun's equatorial plane leads to the formation of broad, equatorial coronal holes, the high-speed streams, and the two-sector structure of the interplanetary field. The regular north-south component of the interplanetary field results from the quadrupole harmonic.
