The secular variation of the earth's rotation is investigated with the aid of numerical integration of a system of 18th-order differential equations over a time interval of 200 years. The assumption is made that the earth consists of an absolutely rigid body having specified moments of inertia and moving in the gravitational field of the moon and the sun. Under these assumptions, the angular velocity of rotation of the earth is found to increase by 0.0002 sec per century.
