Experimental and theoretical investigations of the isotope and charge composition of solar cosmic rays are examined. Attention is given to theoretical models that attempt to explain the anomalously high abundance of He-3 isotopes and heavy nuclei in energetic particles emitted during some solar flares. The importance of investigating energetic solar particles for studies of the earth's magnetosphere is discussed.
