In a young SNR, the possible variation in composition should not be ignored in interpreting observational data. As an example, it is explicitly shown that the Becker et al. observations of Tycho's supernova remnant with HEAO 2 (Einstein) Observatory are consistent with a previously calculated numerical model of a Type I supernova explosion incorporating decay of Ni-56. In young SNRs it may be possible to detect directly the compositions characteristic of the layered structure of the presupernova, not merely the average abundance.
