Observations of the RS CVn binary HR 1099 (V711 Tau) have been made using the CCD camera at KPNO to test the starspot hypothesis spectroscopically. A TiO band system near 8860 A is shown to strengthen greatly at phases when starspots have been predicted to be present on the visible hemisphere. Data from other spectral regions support this result. A minimum temperature difference of 1000 K between the spot and photosphere is indicated.
