The central part of the North America and Pelican nebulae (NGC 7000/IC 5070) has been observed at 610 MHz using the Westerbork Synthesis Radio Telescope. The angular resolution is 1 min, which corresponds to a relative resolution of less than 1%. Due to the very smooth nature of the radio brightness distribution, only a small fraction of total flux density has been detected. Fifty-six background sources appear in the map, along with 13 bright-rim structures. The latter have typical emission measures of 1600/cm to the 6th pc and r.m.s. electron densities of 25/cu cm. From these bright-rim structures the location of the exciting star or stars can be inferred.
