A stage-and-a-half cryogenic lunar lander for the First Lunar Outpost (FLO) is presented. Minimizing the impact of earth launch development and maximizing the compatibility with existing launch assets are emphasized in the lunar lander design. A standard platform, adaptable service module, and a modular engine cluster provide the versatility in a lander that can deliver the combined crew module and ascent stage, dual spacelab habitat and power generation system, or other cargoes. A preliminary concept of using pyrotechnic push rods and rails to guide the ascent stage through the platform during separation was developed. The RCS is integrated with the main propulsion system. The preliminary lunar lander concept is versatile for different missions and meets international goals and needs, namely, low risk and affordability. It also provides the capability for credible and incremental space exploration.
