Solar EUV flux variability is one of the sources of ionosphere/thermosphere variability. Day-to-day variability of the solar EUV flux is not large compared to other short-term drivers of the upper atmosphere. However, during large solar events such as flares and coronal mass ejections, there can be significant increases in the solar EUV flux. The time scales and magnitudes of solar EUV flux variability will be discussed. The potential consequences of these changes in the thermosphere and ionosphere will be explored.
