Hubble Space Telescope observations of the circumnuclear regions of nearby normal and active galaxies have revealed a wealth of small-scale structure, particularly nuclear bars and nuclear spirals. We present high angular-resolution WFPC2 and NICMOS images of a large sample of nearby active and inactive galaxies. These images permit us to quantify the frequency of nuclear bars and nuclear spiral structure in these galaxies as a function of galaxy type and AGN activity. We will discuss the implications for the AGN fueling process. Support for this work was provided by NASA through grant numbers GO-07330, GO-07867, and GO-08597 from the Space Telescope Science Institute, which is operated by the Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy, Inc., under NASA contract NAS5-26555.
