Four new variables with periods in the range 0.349 to 0.498 days have been discovered in the globular cluster NGC 5897 from CCD observations obtained on six consecutive nights in 1997. As a result, the total number of RR Lyrae variables in this cluster has been revised from 7 to 11. One of the new variables, SK 120 (1968 Sandage and Katem, ApJ 153, 569), was previously considered to be a possible non-variable star within the RR Lyrae gap.Smith (1985, AJ 90, 1242) established that SK 120 is probably a cluster member. Our study shows that its period is 0.462 days and its V amplitude is 0.16, below the level of variation that can be readily detected in photographic searches. This research has been supported by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada.
