The hourly values of the three magnetic elements, H, D and Z for 1990 and 1992 from the mid-latitude Aquila Geomagnetic Observatory are analysed to examine their nocturnal variations. Their monthly means and the correlation among the elements are used to study their variations. It is found that a fairly consistent night-time variation is observed in H in both years. Similarities in the variation in D and Z is probably to be attributed to a common origin, while H possibly requires a different cause. The results suggest that the seasonal variation of Sq(H) shows a maximum near the summer solstice whilst that of Sq(D) shows a minimum.
