With data of the northern Scaninavian ionosonde stations hourly, 3-h, daily and monthly indices a catalog of ionospheric disturbance or quietness have been derived for 1981 to 1993. More than 5000 European Incoherent Scatter (EISCAT) electron density height profiles have been analyzed independetly to measure the F region peak disturbance or quietness regarding the ionosonde derived monthly meta-median. The diurnal mean percentage deviation of EISCAT results is compared to ionospheric and geomagnetic quiet, disturbed and neutral days. Such ionospheric and geomagentic state coincides for 30% of the days. 3-h ionospheric disturbance indices illustrate negative ionospheric storm when the auroral electrojet indices are greater than 500 nT.
