The interpretation of spectral data in astronomical studies depends on the available information concerning the spectra and structures of molecules which may occur in astronomical objects. As observations in the millimeter range of wavelengths are extended to higher frequencies, a great many unidentified transitions are being found, some of which may occur in molecules that are unstable under laboratory conditions. Recent work in molecular spectroscopy is discussed, giving particular attention to studies which involve something novel. The transition frequencies up to 300 GHz are considered along with transition frequencies above 300 GHz, radiation and collisional processes, and theoretical calculations of molecular properties and processes. The review shows that there continues to be a need for measurements of microwave transition frequencies of many molecules.
