The present consideration of the rotation of the Galaxy stresses the need to obtain an overall rotation curve that can serve as the basis for radio astronomy, thereby making the accurate derivation of the kinematic distances of H I profiles, H II regions and molecular clouds possible. On the basis of the plausible assumption that the spiral structure of the Galaxy can be represented by a pair of symmetrically positioned logarithmic spirals, it is shown that the presence of wave-like deviations from a smooth rotation curve will make the rotation curve of the Galaxy a function of direction from the galactic center.
