Equations were derived permitting the treatment of shocks which occur in longitudinal-transverse waves propagating in thin magnetic flux tubes. Such waves usually lead to kinks which may grow into oblique shocks. The kink angles between the shock and the tube directions are found to be symmetrical with respect to the shock. Purely longitudinal shocks occur only in special cases of high symmetry or of well defined propagation conditions. Wave calculations were performed which show the formation of oblique shocks. We also discuss recent suggestions that the basic equations for the treatment of longitudinal-transverse waves are incomplete.
