The ratio of the characteristic acceleration time to the time scale for escape of cosmic rays from the galaxy by diffusion is calculated in order to determine the relative significance of interstellar acceleration. The obtained figure is 0.1, implying that the time required for escape is shorter than the particle acceleration time scale, thus cosmic ray acceleration can be neglected. Ratio validity depends on the mean density of the interstellar gas in the disk, and can be applied in cases where cosmic ray particles have energies of 1-3 GeV/nucleon. For more energetic particles, thickness will diminish and the role of interstellar acceleration will be less significant.
