Moderate (2 A) resolution spectroscopic data of the X-ray cataclysmic variable IE 0643.0-1648 reveal that it is a fairly normal CV with a binary period of either 0.22 or 0.18 day. The component stars are a white dwarf of 0.9-1.0 solar mass and a mass-losing companion of 0.4-0.5 solar mass at an inclination of 40-50 deg. Frequent dwarf nova outbursts make it difficult to study this source, since they mask phase-dependent changes in line and continuum intensities. No evidence was found for Zeeman absorptions, which would indicate a high magnetic field.
