Although the radio galaxy Markarian 3 has been classified as a Seyfert 2
by Khachikian and Weedman, recent long-slit spectra reveal no sign of a
gas disc and suggest instead that the galaxy is an elliptical. There may
be some slight rotation of the gas, in which case the radio axis does
not appear to be aligned with the rotation axis.
