Spectroscopic and photometric (BVRI) observations are presented for the southern RS Canum Venaticorum-type spectroscopic and eclipsing binary, HD 5303. These are used to obtain both the radial velocity and light curves for this system, which are analysed to obtain an improved ephemeris and orbital parameters. The out-of-eclipse light curve can be interpreted with a model that has a single large spot on the corotating cooler star, as well as tidal distortion of both stars in the binary system.
