Results of an integration of the equations governing the rates of change of the lunar orbital elements and the earth's angular momentum vector are presented for both the past and the future of the earth-moon system. The linearized equations that govern the precessional motion of the earth's spin axis and the lunar ascending node are solved directly, and lunar tidal friction is treated using a simple model of tidal bulges. The results are found to favor the capture theory of the moon's origin, to confirm that the inclination of the lunar orbit to the earth's equator is never less than approximately 10 deg, and to indicate that the lunar orbit will continue to expand at a continuously decreasing rate.
