On the basis of the observed distribution of parabolic comets over
perihelion distance and the known probability of discovery of comets,
their true distribution is found. It is shown that this distribution is
inconsistent with Oort's capture hypothesis or the hypothesis of the
ejection of comets by the giant planets.
