It is shown that the apparent Balmer line profile self-absorption of the
2141 + 174 quasar is not real. The unusual character of the Balmer line
profiles is instead due to a difference between the mean broad-line and
mean narrow-line redshifts corresponding to a velocity difference of 730
+ or - 160 km/sec.
