The interaction between an intergalactic-gas flow, which is assumed to be an incompressible fluid, and a rigid-body, spheroidal galaxy is examined analytically. The gas-flow patterns, the distributions of pressure at the surface of the galaxy, and certain other quantities are calculated both with and without viscosity. The results are then used in discussing the formation of HI ridges, trailing clouds, and gas streams accompanying the galaxies and the bending (or warping) of interstellar gas observed in spiral galaxies is analyzed. Also discussed is the Magellanic Stream.
