Stars: Novae, Cataclysmic Variables
Scientific paper
Observations of 20 stars classified as cataclysmic variables (CVs) are presented. They include 12 from the General Catalogue of Variable Stars, five from the New Catalogue of Suspected Variable Stars, and the three recently discovered CVs J 05.23, 1E 0830.9-2238, and 1E 1449.7-6804. High-speed photometry is presented for 14 of the stars, supplemented by a number of UBV measurements and spectra. Six of the stars are definitely not CVs. A spin period for the probable intermediate polar 1E 0830.9-2238 is derived, as well as tentative orbital periods for J05.23 and 1E 1449.7-6804.
