Simple types of periodic orbits are studied in a systematic manner, and a comparison is made between the corresponding Newtonian and relativistic orbits in the case of two fixed black holes. In the Newtonian case, the main common types of orbits are elliptical and hyperbolic; these are deformed and of different size in the relativistic case. The elliptic orbits are stable in the Newtonian case and may be stable or unstable in the relativistic case. The characteristics of the various orbit families are quite different in the Newtonian and relativistic cases; the sizes of orbits and their stabilities are also, in general, quite different.
