Elemental abundances and the enrichment of interstellar gas are a strong function of the processes associated with the broad spectrum of stellar evolution. Stellar evolution theory predicts that specific elements can have dramatically different nucleosynthetic histories and so studying the gas phase abundances of such elements in both the Milky Way and other galaxies provides important information on both stellar and subsequently galactic evolution. We propose a study to produce high quality abundance data for the undepleted heavy element Kr (Z = 36) toward six stars representing three distinctly different galactic directions. Our main focus here is the abundance of Kr I primarily because it is a noble gas and is therefore not expected to be depleted onto dust. Thus, unlike all other heavier-than-Zn elements, measures of Kr constitute a direct probe of the cosmic abundance. Variability in the abundance of Kr therefore yields a direct probe of nucleosynthetic enrichment and the efficiency with which this material is mixed in the interstellar gas.
