NGC 3603 is the densest concentration of early-type, massive stars known in the Galaxy (with the possible exception of the Galactic center cluster), and the most massive giant HII region in the Galaxy. We propose to obtain classification-quality, RV calibrated spectra of massive stars with B down to 15 mag in the central 5" (0.17 pc). This will complement ground-based spectroscopic observations of stars in the outer regions of the cluster, and will allow us to compare the stellar populations in the inner and outer regions, as well as to determine directly the mass distribution in the cluster. The nature of the peculiar luminous central stars will also be investigated.
