We propose 12.0 hours with PC in F606W and F814W to image the best available candidate for a compact young elliptical galaxy that is apparently just finishing its initial collapse at z=2.390. Ground-based spectroscopy and 9-band spectrophotometry constrain its stellar population age to ~0.3 Gyr. Deep Cycle 1 WFC I-band images show a deVaucouleurs profile, and suggests that both its dynamical and stellar population age are ~<0.5 Gyr. These images are limited by the Cycle-1 PSF. The proposed Cycle 4 PC images will provide the crucial higher resolution and better PSF to resolve the following questions: (1) What is the sub-kpc morphology and surface brightness-distribution of this young elliptical galaxy candidate at z=2.4? Did it already completely develop an r^1/4-profile in both filters? Or is it still clumpy at scales ~360 pc? (2) Does a young galaxy at z=2.4 have significant color gradients at (sub-)kpc scales? How does this constrain its stellar population and halo collapse that is apparently in progress at z=2.4? Do any subclumps have different ages? (3) Does its weak AGN indeed contribute <20% of the total galaxy light? (4) What is the nature of foreground galaxies (a serendipitous gE at z=0.469), and surrounding galaxies, possibly a forming group or proto-cluster at z=2.4?
