We propose to take FOC images of a small number of nearby elliptical galaxies. We will investigate the central luminosity profiles of the galaxies at the highest possible resolution to look for evidence of resolved cores, non-isothermal profiles, point-like nuclei and stellar disks and dust lanes. We will observe in two colors (F342W and F430W) to look for color gradients in the cores, and to look for dust reddening and hot stars. We will also observe selected objects in the ultraviolet (F220W) to investigate the distribution of ultraviolet light and to compare it to the visible light distribution.
