It is proposed to make observations of 12 low redshift QSO's to determine the nature, in particular the morphological type, of the underlying galaxies. PC observations of 1800 seconds should enable the luminosity profiles to be obtained to radii >10~kpc at S/N=10. High contrast structures with spatial sizes of >0.1 arcsec (such as spiral arms) should also be detected out to a similar radius. The sample includes optically--selected, radio--selected, X-ray selected and IR--selected objects in order to allow comparison between the hosts of each type. Such a project is not feasible from the ground due to atmospheric seeing which smears out the bright central QSO across the underlying galaxy image.
