The EGRET data base of photons with energy > 1 GeV has been searched for point sources within 10 degrees of the Galactic Plane. Earlier surveys with E > 100 MeV have revealed over 30 point sources in this region, mostly unidentified. A similar analysis in the higher energy band is desirable because the narrower instrument point spread function should allow point sources to be identified more readily and located more precisely against the strong Galactic diffuse emission which dominates at lower energies, and because of the possibility that there might be hard-spectrum emitters that might not be detectable in the lower-energy band. Using the customary 5 sigma statistical criterion, this high-energy survey finds 13 sources. All were previously catalogued. They include the Galactic Center, five pulsars, three unidentified sources discovered by COS-B, and four other unidentified sources from the EGRET 2EG catalog. Some of the unidentified sources have positional coincidences with interesting astrophysical objects: a pulsar, two supernova remnants, and a radio-emitting binary star. If the statistical threshold is reduced to 4 sigma , a few additional sources are found, some with similar possible identifications.
