The Ulysses Comet Watch Network was set up in 1993 to gather data on comets appearing during times of solar polar passages by the Ulysses spacecraft, to correlate that cometary data with solar-wind conditions as measured by Ulysses, and to attempt to calibrate comets as high-latitude solar-wind probes. The network now has 221 200 observers in 28 countries. Participants have observed nine comets, including Mueller, Encke and d'Arrest. Currently three comets that will share solar latitudes with the spacecraft are under study: de Vico, Machholz-1, and Hale-Bopp. The network continues to solicit images of comets showing large-scale plasma phenomena from interested observers. This paper reviews the UCW's activities, its comet selection criteria, and presents selected observations submitted by members.
