Scientific paper
Observations of three peculiar galaxies in the cluster A 1367, obtained in the radio continuum (1.5GHz), in the visible and near IR at similar resolution are discussed. The integrated radio/IR flux ratios are about 10 times higher than in isolated galaxies of similar type. The radio continuum morphology resembles that of head-tail radio sources. The three galaxies contain supergiant H ii regions about 10 times more abundant than normal. Spectrophotometric observations indicate that ongoing star-burst activity is taking place. The young H ii regions are aligned along peripheral paths, as if they were formed on a bow-shock. These evidences suggest that the dynamical interaction with the intergalactic medium is capable of producing significant enhancements to the star formation rate in those objects entering the cluster environment for the first time, thus inducing significant changes in the evolution of galaxies.
