With their high H I column densities, the Damped Lyman-(alpha) systems (DLAs) and sub-DLAs seen in the spectra of QSOs are thought to be closely related to galaxies. As these systems are selected based on their absorption properties, followup imaging is necessary and important to study the stellar component of these systems. The DLA systems are now well known to have low metallicities over all redshifts they are observed at (Z 0.10Z_sun), and follow up imaging studies reveal that most DLA host galaxies are faint, galaxies. Here, we propose to observe 6 of the lesser studied sub-DLA systems towards four QSOs which have been spectroscopically determined to have high metallicity and large velocity widths, implying that these may be more similar to massive spiral type galaxies. We ask for 4 dark or grey nights of observations with the SOAR telescope and the Soar Optical Imager for multi-band observations of these systems at z ⪉ 1. This will be the first such systematic study of the morphologies of high metallicity sub-DLA host galaxies.
